lyrics

'Literacy of Love'

Jack was an attorney practicing Mississippi Law
He put away more crooks and cronies than a courtroom ever saw
He earned his reputation by judging people's lives
He found the flaws in all his friends, his family and his wife
Till his lover up and left him she said, 'Honey this is the end'
He cried inside that courtroom, his last remaining friend
Then the judge asked old Jack to introduce the next case
He stared into that jury's eyes and the courtroom heard him say
They remember to this day he said

There's something to love about everyone, it don't matter who you are
Junkie on the street, cop on the beat, politician in the white house seat
There's something to love about everyone, if you dare to take a look
So before you judge another by their cover
You better read the book

Casey was a soldier in the 45th brigade
Collecting stripes and medals for putting people in their grave
Until one day he came upon the enemy in the sun
A commie and his little girl, she had just turned one
Now Casey was a killer, but kill he would no more
He laid his gun and uniform at the foot of the general's door
And they said he was a coward and brought his country shame
But that boy Casey cleared his throat and the general heard him say
Bravely he explained he said

There's something to love about everyone, it don't matter who you are
Junkie on the street, cop on the beat, politician in the white house seat
There's something to love about everyone, if you dare to take a look
So before you judge another by their cover
You better read the book

Place your attention on the sunshine, and sunshine's what you'll get
Focus on those rainclouds and watch the streets get wet
The world is your canvas and your mind is like a brush
Seek and ye shall, will it be gold or rust?

An old man feeds the homeless every Sunday of the week
He invites them up to his mansion for potatoes and collard greens
His neighbors think he's crazy and they say he's lost his mind
But he just smiles and knows that love is revealed to all in time
Old Jack is doing fine, he serves another slice of cherry pie

There's something to love about everyone, it don't matter who you are
Junkie on the street, cop on the beat, politician in the white house seat
There's something to love about everyone, if you dare to take a look
So before you judge another by their cover
You better read the book
